ECMS October Lions’ Den

ROARING WITH PRIDE!

FROM THE DESK OF MS. BURNS

Thank you to everyone who came out to our tie dye night! We had a great turn out and a ton of fun! Students who did not attend were given a tie dyed shirt. These shirts can be worn to school.

Our dedicated team here has been hard at work to provide the best educational experience for your child. In this month’s newsletter, you’ll find important updates, school highlights, and upcoming events to keep you informed and engaged with your child’s education. We also want to report that we have successfully finished our Fall Diagnostics in iReady and have held our Response to Intervention(RTI) meetings. This helps us identify any student who struggles in Reading or Math and potentially qualifies them to receive Title I services. Be on the lookout for Title I permission slips.

Students will complete benchmark testing this month. They complete benchmark tests in reading, math, and science twice a year. The purpose of this testing is to prepare students for the Ohio State Testing in April and identify areas where students need more support.

DEVELOPING A STRONG READER AT HOME!

Helping your child develop strong reading skills at home is a valuable and rewarding endeavor. Here are some effective ways parents can support their child’s reading development:

  • Create a Reading-Friendly Environment:
    • Surround your child with books: Have a variety of age-appropriate books readily available at home.
    • Set up a cozy reading nook: Create a comfortable and inviting space for reading with good lighting.
  • Be a Reading Role Model:
    • Let your child see you reading regularly. Children often mimic the behavior of their parents.
    • Talk about what you’re reading and share your enthusiasm for books.
  • Read Aloud Together:
    • Read aloud to your child daily, even if they can read independently. Choose books that match their interests and reading level.
    • Take turns reading paragraphs or pages, or discuss the story as you read.
  • Encourage Independent Reading:
    • Allow your child to choose books that interest them. Encourage a wide range of genres and topics.
    • Create a reading routine, such as a bedtime reading ritual.
  • Visit the Library:
    • Take regular trips to the library to explore new books and participate in library programs or reading challenges.
    • Let your child pick out books they want to read.

The ECM September Lion’s Den

Roaring with Pride!

From the Desk of Ms. Burns

Welcome back! It has been wonderful to see our returning students and meet our new students over the first two weeks of school.

Please remember, all breakfast and lunches need to be preordered monthly. This applies regardless of being free, reduced, or paid. If you need help ordering or setting up your account please contact the office. September orders will close Monday, September 11, 2023.

This year instead of students taking the diagnostic test NWEA Map, they will be taking the iReady diagnostic. This platform is new for the middle school, we will be administering the tests between September 12th and September 22nd. Students will still take the diagnostic tests three times a year. These results are used to show growth and identify areas where students are struggling.

Hopefully more people will be able to attend our next session on Friday, November 3rd at 9:00.
